Today is Friday, September 15th. On today's show:
I am going to start of the day with the word of the day & quote of the day. A LITTLE ENCOURAGEMENT IN A WORLD OF HATE, Let's go!
Today's word of the day is "habit"
//: a settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up:
**Quote of the day:
"Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going." - Jim rohn
"Bad habits are our enemies because they hinder us from being the person we want to be." - Joyce Meyer
Habits - How long does it take to form one? 21 or 66 days?
Ok you want to change something in your life. Maybe you want to stop a bad habit, start working out, or just eat better. How long do you think it might take for that change to stick?
Well in the past, people thought it could take 21 days to create or change a habit. But recent studies have pushed that number to over triple at 66 days.
Journal of Social Psychology says it takes an average of 66 days for a new behavior to become automatic. But the time required to form a habit can vary depending on the individual and the behavior in question. It is important to remember that forming a habit requires consistent repetition. The more you perform the behavior, the more likely it is to become a habit.
That being said, brain science shows us that when we change our habits and engage in new experiences, we change the pathways in our brains, this process called neuroplasticity which produces new connections as we learn. It shows that throughout our lives as we acquire new skills and experiences, and develop and expand our habits, our brains will continue to grow new neural connections. Research shows that this brain development can continue throughout our lives as we continue to acquire new skills and experiences.
In the book I have, Atomic Habits by James Clear, he says, "we can get remarkable results by making one tiny change at a time. When you first start, it is more important that you create a habit which is more critical than actually achieving a goal. He recommends try getting just 1% better each day.
Remember that forming a new habit doesn't stop old habits from existing, your new habits just have to become more powerful influences on your behavior.
You will have times when you fall back a couple of days and that doesn't mean you have ruined your chances of being successful. This is not the case. It is more about your long-term consistency. It simply requires your best and most consistent attempt over an extended period of time. Just remember to enjoy the process of getting to your goal rather than just thinking about that final moment when your goal is achieved.
What is important here is that you're continually improving your overall behavior and daily habits because they play a critical role in building a positive daily routine and ultimately reaching your goals.
You got this! I BELIEVE IN YOU!!
