It’s Fri-YAY the 13th!! - Start your day with a little sugar‼️😁❤️💕#183
Today is Friday the 13th and on today's show:
I am going to start of the day with the word of the day & quote of the day. A LITTLE ENCOURAGEMENT IN A WORLD OF HATE, Let's go!
Today's word of the day is " self-compassion "
//: Self-compassion is defined as giving yourself the same compassion you'd give others.
**Quote of the day:
"Having compassion starts and ends with having compassion for all those unwanted parts of ourselves." - Pema Chodron
"If your compassion does not include yourself, it is incomplete." - Siddhartha Gutama
Many of us are able to extend compassion toward others YET struggle when it comes to giving a little to ourselves. Why? I wish I knew.
I can admit that this is something I fight with all the time, even though I understand why being self-compassionate to myself is so important.
For example, imagine a someone close to you has come to you to because they needed someone to share their struggles they are currently going through. They feel overwhelmed by all the different challenges that they seem to be going through and start beating themselves up. How would you respond?? Would you sit there and agree when they are putting themselves down? Chances are, you would extend some compassion, because you understand. You've been there.
BUT now let us imagine for a moment that you are that person going through the battle, OR you did something stupid that you now regret. Are you extending that same kind of compassion to yourself? If you are like most people, myself included, you find it a bit more difficult to do.
It sounds like such a simple concept, yet many of us, being kind to ourselves, especially when we are experiencing some type of failure or struggle, can seem impossible.
Luckily, self-compassion is a learnable skill, and good thing, because it has a number of health benefits, including lower levels of anxiety and depression. Here are some steps you can take to having more self-compassion towards yourself:
- Give yourself some encouragement when you are going through something.
- Practice mindfulness: It can help you become more aware of your negative self-talk and develop a more compassionate attitude towards yourself
- Recognize that you are only human: Remember that everyone makes mistakes and experiences setbacks. You are not alone in your struggles, and it’s okay to ask for help when you need it.
- Forgive yourself: First, accept responsibility for any harm you may have caused. Secondly, acknowledge the regret you feel without overwhelming shame. Third, try to repair the damage along with recommitting to your values.
- Become more self-aware: becoming aware of our internal narratives is a positive starting point for changing our self-talk.
- Celebrate your small accomplishments: It is important to acknowledge the small steps to achieving your goals.
- Express gratitude: Studies have shown that gratitude, help foster higher levels of psychological well-being.
- Practice self-care: Take care of your physical, emotional, and mental health by getting enough sleep, eating well, exercising regularly, and engaging in activities that bring you joy.
Forgiving and nurturing ourselves can set the stage for better health, relationships, and general well-being.
To sum it all up, practicing self-compassion may take some time and effort. Try to cultivate the same relationship with yourself that you would have with a good friend. See yourself as an inner friend instead of an enemy. Recognize all your strengths and potential. It is the attitude you need to accept ourselves as we are despite the past and find peace and joy in the present.
We got this! I believe in us!
