Today is May 24, 2024, on today's show:
**I like to start the show with the word of the day & quote of the day. Spreading knowledge is a powerful way of adding value to the world.
So let's go!
Today's word of the day is "Self-worth"
//: Self-worth is defined by Merriam-Webster as:
“a feeling that you are a good person who deserves to be treated with respect”

“When you start to build self-worth and redeem your magnificence, the fears go away – you void your fears via your realization of your own self-worth.”
Self-worth
Self-worth is an internal sense of being worthy of love. It is a gauge of how much we respect, love, and value ourselves.
Self-esteem is often used interchangeably with self-worth; but self-esteem can be defined as “feeling” good and confident about oneself.
The big difference is that self-esteem is a feeling – it can be raised through external factors like receiving a nice compliment or wearing a new outfit. But self-esteem does not last. And the problem with it not lasting is that if you do not have self-worth you will continue to need those compliments in order to feel good about yourself.
When we have low self-worth, it means we judge ourselves harshly, have a low opinion of ourselves and focusing on our mistakes and shortcomings instead of our strengths and abilities.
Many factors influence our self-worth, our beliefs and values, and past and present relationships being just a couple. When you are trying to gauge your self-worth, answer these questions:
- How much do you like, respect, and value yourself?
- Which words would you use to describe yourself to a stranger?
- When you self-reflect and think about yourself, are your thoughts generally positive, negative, or somewhere in between?
- Do you believe you are worthy of other's love, respect, and consideration?
Answer these questions honestly, and try to think about where your thoughts and beliefs around your self-worth actually came from. Was it the action of a parent, ex-boyfriend, or spouse? Understanding where pieces of your self-worth come from, will help you work through those (thoughts and past experiences) and grow positive self-worth. Do not let your shortcomings define your identity.
When you have self-worth, you learn to set boundaries, especially around how others treat you. Learning to ask for respect is what pushes others to be respectful. Try to stop looking for validation from things and people. Looking for external validation will only frustrate you. You are only setting yourself up for disappointment. Place your worth on your insides. It is the key to leading a healthy life.
One of the most effective ways to boost your self-worth is practicing self-compassion. Self-compassion means treating yourself with the same kindness and compassion we would treat others with. Like the list of questions above, you might find out, that you are your own worst eni and harshest critic.
Treat yourself with kindness and understanding during challenging times will enhance your self-worth. So go out there and kick some butt, and be kind to your self while your doing it.
You got this… I believe in you.
