Today is Friday January 19th, welcome. On today's show:
**I like to start the show with the word of the day & quote of the day. You may need these words of encouragement to brighten your day.
These positive words can significantly influence when used correctly and with someone who may need them.
So let's go!
Today's word of the day is "self-centered"
//: Being self-centered means having a single-minded focus on oneself and one's own needs, desires, preferences and problems.
**Quote of the day:

"People that truly love us are aware & concerned about our happiness in life. People that are self-centered want us around to make them happy." - Shannon Thomas - South Lake counseling
What does it mean to be absorbed and or self-centered??
If we take a look at the word "self-centered" we need to understand that a self-centered or absorbed person tends to be focused on themselves and show no consideration for others.
I do not want y'all to get that confused with self-care. They differ. Self-care involves protecting your peace. Taking care of your health and mental health. Knowing your limits. Learning to deal with stressors in your life. Self-care is personal growth.
Now being self-centered is not even close.
Self-centered people come very close to being narcissists. A lot of behaviors of a narcissist are the same with a self-centered person. They are very entitled, manipulative, controlling, and have a lack of empathy or any concern for others.
(To be empathetic requires one to put themselves in another person's shoes and understand their feeling. Self-centered people cannot or for a narcissist will not see things from another person's point of view in order to be able to be empathetic. And wholly cow, it seems like more people now a days are self-centered or narcissistic.
**They are charming and use you to get what they want
Are people so ignorant that they do not see that they are being used for anothers gain? Or are they just as self-centered because they have learned how to use and are using the user for their own personal gain?? Either way - the current state of humanity really sucks.
**They make everything a competition -
They will try to either one-up your or down you, depending on the situation. You know what one upping is. One down you means if you are suffering they try to tell you how they are suffering more. Now do not get me wrong. If you are being empathic because you can relate with the persons pain because you have either gone through the same thing or similar. I am thinking in that situation, that you might have to wait to express how you have also gone through that and be careful how you deliver it. For me, I appreciate it if someone that has gone through that type of pain, can help me so that I do not have to go through it. Other times I just need to vent. I try my hardest to handle situations with love and care. Moving on…
**They use manipulation to get their way
If someone cares for you, they would not constantly exhibit manipulation, emotional manipulation or a controlling behavior. This is where you want to look out for other signs of narcissism, like gaslighting (CHECK) and emotional abuse (CHECK, CHECK).
If you decided to express a concern you have with their behavior and they turn your concern back on you, WARNING SIGN.
**They are very good at masking their selfishness
There are many ways that a self-centered person can "mask" their self-centeredness. They have learned the right way to say things. The right way to get exactly what they want. They know how to tailor a conversation to bring it right back to them.
**Oh damn, if you have like this in your life, and dare to say something to them that they do not like, protect yourself and prepare yourself for pushback from this person. Remember, they do not know how to fully understand because AGAIN they are so self -centered. I did this. I went in innocently thinking that, "Hey this person loves me, everything is going to be fine - damn straight I was completely disappointed. But I had to set boundaries and stay firm. ULTIMATELY, if they do not like it, then they were only using you and not someone that you want in your life. But be for warned, you might be dealing with a psycho, in my experience they went after ever so called friend and say whatever they need to say to get them against you and not stop harassing you after take a stand. But again, if anyone who you might think is a friend and jumps ship because of something someone else says, instead of coming to you, you do not need them in your life.
From self-absorbed people to full-blown narcissist, the bottom line is, if someone treats you like this, drains your energy & show no concern for you or your concerns, however hard it will be to cut them out of your life, sometimes it is necessary for the sake of our own well-being.
Protect your peace, you got this. I believe in you.
