She discusses the latest food and music news and trends. Her son Ahron join’s the show on Friday’s to teach his mom about his favorite topic, sports. He goes over what happened in sports the prior week. Ahron has Autism and is learning to navigate the podcast world. Along with the music segment on each show, she dives into the history of each song on the list. What is Self-Love?
Self-love means that you accept yourself fully, treat yourself with kindness and respect, and continue to grow and care for your well-being.
It also includes those pesky thoughts and feelings about ourselves.
When you love yourself, you have an overall positive view of yourself. This doesn't mean yo u feel positive about yourself all the time, you are only human. You can be temporarily upset about something, yet still love yourself. Remember, you do this for people you love. A good example would be your children. They may have done something that made you mad and upset, BUT you still love them. You need to treat yourself the same way.
Why do we need to love ourselves?
For some of us we may have grew up without any models for self-love or anyone who talked to you about the importance of being good to yourself, you might question the value of self-love.
Without it, you're likely to be highly self-critical and fall into people pleasing and perfectionism. You are more likely to tolerate abuse or mistreatment from others. You may neglect your own needs and feeling.
When you understand self-love, you know it is the foundation that allows us to be assertive, set boundaries and create healthy relationships with others, practice self-care, pursue our interests and goals, and feel proud of who we are.
Now do not get self-love confused with narcissism. Narcissists believe they are better than others, will not take responsibility for their mistakes, and they lack empathy for others.
Self-love on the other hand, isn't about showing off how great you are. People who love themselves in a healthy way know that they are flawed and make mistakes and they accept and care about themselves despite their imperfections. Self-love doesn't prevent you from caring about others, it simply means you can give yourself the same kindness that you give to others.

Ask yourself this question as often as you can: "What would someone who loves themselves do?" Ask yourself this question whenever you need to make a decision, be it trivial or important, cause guess what? You are important.

Taking responsibility for your actions, do you look at your life and blame others because of where you are?
The question of taking responsibility for one's actions never arises when everything is good. It is only when things go bad that we start searching for someone else to blame.
It is funny how life pushes you in the same sticky situation, usually over and over, until we learn our lesson. Take responsibility for your actions because that then means you are taking responsibility for your life!!
Finding a scapegoat is taking the easy way out for the actions YOU took. It is one of the worst negative personality traits you could ever have. It is the worst because the person doing this KNOWS that he or she is committing this wrong and yet they still are ready to blame someone else for their own doing. This type of behavior reflects weakness, lack of character and ethics.
Everyone makes mistakes in their lives. It only tells the world that you are human. There is no shame in admitting that we have made some poor choices in life. This is because there is none who can testify that every decision he/she has made in life has been good and fruitful. It's when we deny our poor choices and turn a blind eye to our poor judgment that we set our self-up for further failure.
When you start to take responsibility for your life you:
- Recognize the areas in your life that you can control and make positive change needed.
- You accept and move past the things you cannot control, without blaming or excusing.
- You do the things you are supposed to do, AND accept the positive or negative outcome of your actions.
- You learn to consciously make decisions and conduct behaviors that seek to improve yourself and or help others.
- AND you accept the consequences of your own actions and decisions.

To be focused means to give your full attention to one particular thing. It involves concentrating your interest or activity on something and filtering out distractions. Being focused requires careful attention and can improve the quality of your work or task.
How do you do this?? How do you stay focused on the end goal when we have distractions lurking at every corner?
When we are being pulled in all directions, trying to stay focused can become very stressful and overwhelming.
We have to start by setting goals. Then we can set a clear path for the actions needed to move forward.
Because the distractions will continue to come. We live in an age of smart phones, social media, etc. The distractions we face today are ever present and endless.
- Start your day strong , with a healthy breakfast, meditation or exercise.
- continue to focus on the outcome
- remove distractions
- set a schedule - I had someone laugh at me when I told them that I could not do something during a specific time because I already had plans. If I do not set a schedule, and stick to it, you will not accomplish what you want to. There will be times life happens, it is ok. Be kind to yourself.
Remember, Stay focused. Your start does not determine how you're going to finish!

Self-discipline - is one of the hardest choices that you will make. It is a choice to move forward without excuses. You see I let my circumstances rule over my goals. I allowed my thoughts of pain to overrule my ultimate goal. I know what I need to do. I am exactly where I am because of me and only me. I do not want to be average. So let us learn a little bit about Self-Discipline.
For a lot of us, phrases like self-discipline and self-mastery might sound dire, or intimidating. We think it might stop us from enjoying life, this is not how self-discipline works. Self-discipline actually lets us enjoy life in a better way while being mindful and productive.
We can distract ourselves, excuse our way out, blame the environment, bad habits, food, our genes or even GOD, but at the end of the day it is just us and our weak muscle.
The sooner we take responsibility of our actions and discipline ourselves, the quicker we can move to the top, and reach our goals. Getting good results or anywhere in life is just not possible without discipline. It can get addicting just like anything else, once you get the hang of it.
When you are building your self-discipline muscle, you have to deal with both external and internal aspects. External is your ability to build and keep good habits, drop bad habits, and act in accordance with your goals.
Internal aspects is that which makes external aspect possible: self-mastery. It means that you have the power to choose which of the conflicting voices inside of you gets to run the show.
So, let's give this a listen:
Remember - If you do not sacrifice for what you want, what you want becomes the SACRIFICE! It is not easy, but push through and be kind to yourself when you have a bad day. YOU GOT THIS! I BELIEVE IN YOU!!

**Ok, one of our friends, I have not spoken to them in order to see if it is ok to mention their name but someone close to us has lost someone close to them. Just put out good thoughts and prayers.

“Willpower isn’t something that gets handed out to some and not to others. It is a skill you can develop through understanding and practice.” Gillian Riley
**What does it mean to have willpower?
Willpower involves your ability to exert self-control over your own behavior so you can carry out your goals AND also during stressful situations. Do you have the willpower to control your mouth? Most do not. They are fast to speak and defend themselves, prove their innocence, instead of just choosing to pick your battles, protect your peace and shout your mouth. It is the ability to control and restrain yourself.
Willpower goes by many names: drive, determination, self-discipline, self-control and resolve. So why do some people "stick at it" so much better than others? How can you learn to cultivate more self-discipline?
Just like a lot of traits I have spoken about in the past, willpower, if you do not possess it, you can make it grow, just like a muscle, nice and strong. Or not. But that is completely up to you. If you want to grow and achieve your goals, willpower is the ability to resist instant gratification, in order to achieve your long-term goals.
It means:
- Having the capacity to ignore unwanted thoughts and feelings.
- Having the ability to have a "calm, cool" response instead of a "hot headed" emotional behavior.
- And having the ability to take control of your life, (instead of spending your time in front of the tv eating) you are going to use that time to better yourself instead.
Reading about willpower, I read a lot of researchers or psychologist that said that willpower is partly determined by genetics. I do not believe that. I DO believe that you do learn from the people you spend your time with. So, when you are little, you are influenced by the humans who raise you. But as I believe that there is no excuse to not wanting to complete your life dreams and goals.
Another stupid, yes stupid excuse "THEY" experts say is that, like gas in your car, you have a limited supply of willpower. Again, I feel like, yes you have times when it is harder to accomplish your dreams, keep your mouth shut, but again the more you choose to do the right thing, it becomes a habit.
Things you can do to strength your will power - continue to read, learn new skills, and activities that can help you build better self-discipline.
You also need to believe that you can do things, accomplish goals. If you have negative thoughts about not being able to improve, complete or do something, do you honestly think you will? Mostly likely not.
So develop your self-awareness. Be aware when negativity enters your life. Be aware when you are tempted to eat that entire bag of chips. Be aware when you want to scream during a confrontation.
The ability to believe about willpower can affect our ability to practice self-control.
Remember that temptation is everywhere, tackle each temptation, separately, and do not give up!

I asked Louis and he thinks it is because there was a woman who's care caught fire and her Stanley cup was in the car and was in one piece, it did not melt AND it still had ice in it. I just remember my Grandpa having a Stanley lunch box with the thermos on the top.
